5 Reasons Password Managers are a Good Idea

In a recent Weak Password Report done by Specops, researchers analyzed around 1.089 billion stolen passwords and found that the most commonly breached passwords consisted of eight characters. Alarmingly, out of the one billion compromised passwords, almost 230 million would be considered complex--that's only 23%!

A complex password means they had a minimum of eight characters, a capital letter, a number, and a special character. This shows how advanced hacking techniques have become in recent years, reinforcing the need for a secure and reliable password management service. Password managers are designed to eliminate weak passwords and make it much harder for attackers to compromise credentials.

Strong Password using letters characters and numbers
If you notice, these two "words" have numbers and symbols replacing certain letters, creating one Strong Password.

Here are 5 reasons why you should utilize one for your company today:

  1. Weak Passwords Are Easily Compromised: Many users rely on simple, easily memorable passwords, which are vulnerable to brute-force attacks. Even passwords that meet basic complexity requirements (like including capital letters and numbers) can be cracked with advanced tools. Password managers generate strong, random passwords that are difficult to guess.

  1. Centralized, Encrypted Storage: Password managers securely store all your login credentials in an encrypted vault, reducing the risk of unauthorized access. This centralized approach simplifies password management across multiple accounts.

  1. Protection Against Phishing Attacks: By autofilling credentials only on recognized websites, password managers help prevent phishing attacks where users might otherwise be tricked into entering their information on fraudulent sites.

  1. Enhanced Security Features: Many password managers offer additional security measures such as multi-factor authentication (MFA), automatic locking after inactivity, and encryption of stored data, further safeguarding your information.

  1. Regular Updates and Patch Management: Reputable password manager providers regularly update their software to address vulnerabilities. Some offer automatic updates, ensuring that users benefit from the latest security enhancements without manual intervention.

BONUS: Password managers include random password generators! No need to break your brain to create a complex 13-18 character password. A password manager will generate one for you.

ANOTHER BONUS: Now you only need to remember one password, the MASTER PASSWORD. This is the only password you need to login to your Password Manager. Leaving room in your brain for more important things like funny memes and your best friend's phone number from when you were 10!
