Every year it takes less time for a hacker to brute force your password
Last year I posted on our social media this interesting infographic from Hive Systems about how long it takes a hacker to brute force your password:
2022
This year, it takes even less time, and if you use ChatGPT even less!
2023
Using ChatGPT
This GIF showing the difference in years from 2020, 2022, and 2023 is scary and mesmerizing when you see instantly how quickly hackers can get into your accounts. Even if you think you have a complex password.
This shows that my go-to password, which is 10 characters, has gone from hackable in 5 years to 5 months to 2 weeks. I don't think a hacker would be satisfied after spending that time hacking into my personal accounts, but when they can do it with 100s to 1000s of accounts at a time, it pays off for them in the end. NOT for us.
So do this tech-blogger a favor. Start adding a couple extra special characters to your passwords. If you can get up to 13 characters, that hacker will have to spend 15,000 years cracking your code. I'd say it's not worth it. 😉 Also, don't use ChatGPT to create your password. Seems counter-intuitive.
